Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Peppermint Linux is neat in many ways

Thanks to all  who replied.

The right click method seems simple and intuitive to me.

Perhaps I am a bit spoiled and not ready to accept reality.

Using the terminal mode (and even file manager) seems like a definite loss in functionality.   Perhaps this is the price you pay for a small system that has simple menus and runs and installs rapidly.   I will have to chew on this for a bit to decide what my next step will be.

I was quite happy with Ubuntu until they updated the menus with a new user interface,  I see there is now a way to install the old menus interface.

As in many of  my battles with life, with your help and   combined inputs, I have stepped up a level and am now at a more elevated plane of ignorance.

Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Seek linux verison of Encyclopedia software

Well, technically Wikipedia is based on linux.... but that's probably not what you're after.

Short answer is, I've never heard of one (same applies to your other thread about a herb rememdy program.

To be honest, those things are becoming few and far between, even on windows, IMO because everything is available on a website somewhere.

You could run Encarta or most windows programs on Linux via WINE (Windows Emulator) so that's always an option...

This also seems as if it may be relevant, though it doesn't really give a
solution.

I don't _think_ that will be relevant to the issue, but a little more
googling around indicated that right clicking brings up other things rather
than an option to create a directory.

Googling around for XFCE might be helpful, that's the desktop environment
being used.

Thank you. I was aware  of none of this.   I am Googling now on
Xfwm4 to see what I can learn about it.

I see I'm wrong, it now uses Xfwm4, not openbox.

I was under the impression that Peppermint uses openbox as its window
manager. Openbox doesn't give you the option to right click and create a
directory.

There's always the command line

mkdir <directory_name>, for example

mkdir myfiles
