That depends on whether your machine has sufficient ram to hold all the
software (OS,Applications) and data in memeory. If you have 4 or 8 GB
of ram probably nothing will happen and you won't notice any difference.

On a machine with little ram (under 2GB) you will notice slower performance.

here running
$ apt-cache search grub

turns up a package called
grub-choose-default - Control Grub Default through a GUI

in Debian Squeeze. I wonder if that is what they meant?

Well, there is a link on the page for "Ubuntu."  That is what I have used for Debian and Uburntu based distros and it works well.  I like the product so much that I want to install the PPA (Personal Package Archives) that made the product part of regular updates.  You will hear people state that PPAs are dangerous because they are from the community.  It depends on the stability of the source.  Plus, isn't everything we use in Linux pretty much from a community somewhere?  Can you say Debian?  How about Fedora?

well I had a still better idea.  I took robolinux off and installed mint 17......all the problems went away.  I think robolinux isn't ready for prime time....nice idea, tho.  Being debian based it has some problems.  Thanks for all the help.

At my primitive level of Linux knowledge, I
assume he had to load it from the link.

At this time, I haven't had any need to get
into Grub (I assume it's there in Mint but
working behind the scenes) running just
one OS on my old netbook.

How to change the boot order of a dual-boot Linux PC

Look at the "Graphical method" (4 rather simple steps).

Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Removal of linux partition

Joan,
It is a dual boot.  Windows first then Robolinux.  The reason I am doing this is evertime windows updates itself it reboots and if I am not there to select windows it boots into linux.

I became rather disappointed with RoboLinux and Zorin lately when updating broke printing, but maybe it's really upstream at Apple, who took over CUPS, from what I've read...

It all depends on your setup and where grub is written to. If you remove the partition with grub on it then you can't get in at all. Of you remove a partition then it could make grub unusable because grub uses original partition numbering. Ie. Second will become first etc. and grub won't be able to load what you want because it can't locate it.
We need more information to answer accurately.
