Blame blackberry for the top post...
I've not done a full inplace upgrade in ages. They sometimes can be adventurous, to be nice. But if you do regular updates you should already be pretty much at the latest levels anyway.
I run a Ubuntu derivative on my netbook and all I do is run the update through Apt every so often and that pretty much takes care of any upgrade worries as far as I can tell.
From what I've seen though, if it helps, straight from ISO upgrades on Ubuntu and other Debian based systems has usually been fairly painless, unlike upgrading Fedora or RHEL which can be fun. And that's fun in the ironic and not very fun at all way.
I'd write this better but I'm out of town and my laptop is packed in the trunk right now :)
Good luck, but you should be fine.

Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] Any issues in upgrading from Jaunty to Karmic without a clean install?
Greetings!
Now that the "Karmic" series has been out a month or so, I am contemplating the move from Kubuntu Jaunty to Kubuntu Karmic. Previously, I did a clean install each time. This time, I am thinking of doing an in-place upgrade.
Have any of you folks done the in-place upgrade, and if so, were there any problems or complications you ran into?
I appreciate the info...
David
