Okay, I'll bite.
You are (partially) wrong.
I believe a firewall is important for every Internet-connected computer--but firewall capability is already built into Linux. I mentioned before there are some relatively simple firewall configuration utilities you can use to do this. Since you are a Kubuntu user (as am I, but with some tweaks like the Englightenment window manager), look at Guard Dog in the repository as one example.
Another worthwhile approach is to use the Bastille script, which is interactive and will teach you a great deal about system hardening as you make the appropriate choices presented to you by the script.
Pop-up blockers and anti-adware stuff should take place at the browser level. That is why I run both Noscript and Adblock + in my Firefox setup...and both help a great deal.
