Figured that in this case, it merits being posted to Linux, Redhat and
Newbies. Hopefully those who feel this was wrong will forgive me.
Well, as most of you probably know, RH has released a public version of
their 6.x beta. It can be downloaded without subscription or
registration, there are links at distrowatch.
download is incredibly slow but the torrents that KB Singh, a CentOS dev
has made available (the i386 torrent is linked from distrowatch-
the i386 with x86_64 and that's the torrent for the 64 bit version,
I haven't had a chance to try it yet. One thing a few CentOS devs
discovered, is that they took the brilliant idea from Fedora of not
making it necessary to have any sort of authorization to upgrade
installed, signed, packages. I'm impressed. Passwords are a nuisance
and this way, you don't have to worry about them. Heh, who said Linux
couldn't be easier to use than Windows? Windows requires some sort of
authority to upgrade packages.
For those who are as disgusted by the this as most of those aware of it
are, CentOS' NedSlider has filed a bug. You can comment and vote on it.
://bugzilla.
