Re: [LINUX_Newbies] About Red hat linux

download the live cd of scientific linux... it is a rebranded Redhat
distributed/promoted by CERN. Then burn it as an image (iso) to your cd.
You can get the program "infrarecorder" off the web for free, which is a
good choice for burning image files. I comes with a number of scientific
programs packaged. With the live CD, you can run the entire operating
system (albeit slowly) from your CD-rom and computers memory. So that means
no changes to your hard drive. There is no prerequisite to knowing linux or
unix to using it as it is a graphic user interface. Check for tutorials on
the web or just click around to familiarize yourself. And ask any questions
or for help if you are having problems. You might want to try out other
linux distributions also... you can try most from a live cd in the same
way. I eventually went with Ubuntu as it seemed good for a novice and had a
forum where I could find most of my questions already answered. best of
luck!
