I have actually recieved several varieties of this from my mother in
law. she claims to not understand how it keeps happening

If this is the same "scam" my dear relative has been falling to, it
disguises itself as a social networking tool that will make your life
so much better. I suspect we will see more of this rather than less
as digital social interactions continue to rise in popularity.
Especially with a lot of young ones who want to be "in" with the
latest and greatest social applications and sites...
