and soak up what you can. Try not to apply what you have learned in Windows
to Linux. They are very different, based on different principles and the
techniques are different.
Ubuntu 9.04 expires in October 2010. The first number is the year (2009) and
the number after the decimal is the month of release (04 for April). Ubuntu
9.04 was a normal release. Normal releases have 18 months support meaning
9.04 expires in 2010-10. LTS releases have 3 years for the desktop version
and 5 years for the server version. The current version 10.04 is LTS and
will expire in 2013 for the desktop and 2015 for the server. It might be
worth your time to download the free ISO of the latest release and burn it
to disk or write it to a usb stick (if your computer can boot usbs). You can
try the upgrade route, but most Linux veterans prefer a fresh installation.
You must upgrade to 9.10 and then to 8.04 which is twice the bandwidth and
much more time. Plus lots more can go wrong with two upgrades. You cannot
skip releases if you upgrade.
