Thanks for the info.

Alas, the bios is singularly unhelpful. There is very little that can
be changed. I recall being able to enable or disable the video card in
the earlier incarnation of this machine (before the MB died,) but this
one is definitely an idiot box.

The good news is that I was able to download the proprietary MSI drivers
for linux, which gave me a whole lot more control. The 'twin view'
option is grayed out, but I can at least choose the resolution that I like.

By the way, I'm running Linux Mint 7 Gloria. I'm going to upgrade to
Mint 9 soon.
