Yes. Toshiba has given me crap when I sent my laptop in for repair (locked bios, I don't think it was "random" but a timed lock), They somehow got me to say I used linux and wanted to charge me extra for "reinstalling" windows. Needless to say I spoke to the manager and had him look at a page that showed the BIOS was different than windows, or any other OS. *sees Gates yelling at toshiba for not selling a licends to me*.
FUD campaigns are real.
As far as the graphical interface vs command line.
The graphical interface drew me close to linux, and got me to switch.
The terminal taught me the inner workings. It's nice to not be locked out of anything. If you are, well sudo (command) works all the time. :D
