VM and she is now able to switch virtual desktops and use Windows for the
few applications that run on Windows and use Mint for the rest. I am quite
proud of her. I would not say that she understands Linux, but she is able to
use her computer in much the same way she used Windows. She did not really
understand Windows if the truth is known, but most Windows users don't
either. They work within their comfort zone and that is it.
I am happy to see that you are enjoying Linux. There are a couple of things
that you could try. One would be to build your own distribution using Linux
From Scratch or use Arch to understand more how it works. You could do it in
a VM using VirtualBox. The second thing would be to join the IRC channels
for Ubuntu (the basis for Mint) and learn from the pros. They are very good
at helping people who want tom learn packaging or anything related to
Ubuntu. Mint also has a couple of IRC channels.

You could also try listening to podcasts and subscribing to RSS feeds. There
is a ton of information at all levels.
