I think your descriptions of a GUI is fairly accurate, but just to
make sure: Consider for example, you can open a terminal, type "cd
~/Desktop" then "ls" to see files listed there. Alternatively, you
can click on places -> desktop and see a listing of the files on your
desktop. The later of those examples is using a graphical interface,
while the former is using a text-based interface. A GUI is simply the
graphical environment that allows you to interact with programs. I
hope that helps if you were still at all confused. There is probably
a better way to explain it, but that's the best I have.
