My 2 cents is go with Slackware. The stability is amazing with a long

I've been using it since its 13.0 release.

The things I like and that other Slackware users say they like:

Founder Pat V. is conservative in his approach to changes to Slackware.
The stability is amazing with a long track record.
There isn't a set release date, it's ready when it's ready.
It's been around since 1992.
Slackware is supported for a long time. Pat still releases security
updates for as far back as his 9.0 release!
Slackware's package manager doesn't check dependencies.

The user base is simply nice to work with. Check out Slackware's
