If you feel uncomfortable installing the operating system, you can buy Linux pre-installed on a PC. (and yes you can install 32 bit OS on 64 bit processors) Here are a few links for you.

Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] recommended desktops ?
I'm looking for a new desktop. First, I wonder if any of you kind
gentlemen have any special recommendations for machines to get, or
opinions about machines to avoid? Second, is it correct that I can
install 32 bit linux on a 64 bit machine? Last, am I likely to have any
trouble ripping out microsoft and reformatting drives?
Grateful thanks
