I'm a bit lost on this as everything I've tried falls short.

This was a longer thing than I expected. With the "Live CD" USB running,
I tried the df -h
you asked for and got:
__________________________________________________________
mint@mint ~ $ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/cow 497M 54M 443M 11% /
udev 487M 4.0K 487M 1% /dev
tmpfs 100M 1.3M 99M 2% /run
/dev/sda 1.3G 1.3G 0 100% /cdrom
/dev/loop0 1.3G 1.3G 0 100% /rofs

I hope this comes through OK--I see Thunderbird doesn't handle tabs at
all well, so I added
some spaces hoping to approximate what showed on the terminal.
With misgivings (because I, naturally, don't have a password on Live CD)
I also tried sudo cfdisk
(it did not ask for a password) and got (I also added spaces in hopes of
better alignment):
__________________________________________________________
cfdisk (util-linux 2.20.1)

Does this point out anything useful?
