[LINUX_Newbies] VLC in Mint 17

I`ve tried many things. This is one.
In Mint 17 to install VLC. 2.1.5 after 2.1.4 neither of which helped.
3.0 gig duo processor. 2 gig memory.

Open terminal
1. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/stable-daily
2. sudo apt-get update
3. sudo apt-get install vlc

Countless hrs. try to get this working. No joy .
Any suggestions?
