Windows 7 does seem to be pretty good (though I have only used it a
little.) Macs are good, but expensive.
As far as Linux being too hard to learn... well, so is MS DOS and all
the extensions that are added to make networking and peripheral devices
work. That's why the folks at Apple and Microsoft invented things like
Plug and Play, wizards, and all that other overhead.
I used to set up the autoexec.bat and config.sys files when I added
hardware or otherwise goofed with the system. It was part of the price
of admission.
Nowadays, you pop in a CD, make a few choices, and let 'er rip.
Windows, Mac, or Linux; it doesn't matter. You tend to have easier
access to the inner works with Linux, but most people want it to just work.
I'm a geek, so I like to know how to dig into the works. Still, there
are times when I would rather drive than adjust the carburettor.
