You did try at a slower speed under Preferences in Brasero, right? Do you have another CD or DVD burner to try? Sometimes those that die for Windows work okay for Linux. Then again sometimes it's the reverse. That's why I have a stack with notes to myself.
When they're really dead, in a pinch, I've used them like chucks of wood to raise a shelf or furniture...A bit of MacGuyver in me. ;^)
