Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Cannot boot Ubuntu

Are you wanting to boot from CD/DVD drive or an 'already installed' on the HD Ubuntu?
I assumed CD/DVD drive. If you get offered the CD/DVD drive and select that CD/DVD drive with Ubuntu ISO disk in the selected drive, will the computer boot to Ubuntu? Will the DC/DVD disk boot in another computer? IOW, is the selected disk viable as a boot medium?

Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Cannot boot Ubuntu

The last haft of Windows 7, Microsoft had companies to set HDD boot first in the Bios. Most companies did as Microsoft wanted. All you have to do is go into Bios and set CD boot first.

From the way I read Jerry's post, he had loaded Linux on the HHD. But did he put grub in the MBR or on the drive. If he had put it on the drive, I think you have to go in and change so things. Don't know what. Windows 8 and on have that pain in ass UEFI boot.

I have been using Ubuntu for several years on my old computer.  I bought a new computer, HP Envy model 700-327c running W7 Pro.  It has some hokey new file system.  I loaded Ubuntu 14.04 and I can see the new partitions on the HHD. The problem is that I can find no way to boot into Ubuntu.  Ideally on power up I would like to be presented with a selection of W7 or Ubuntu and then have the selected boot.  Does anyone know how to do this?  Please go easy on me as I am not very fluent in Linux.  Thanks for any help.

Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Cannot boot Ubuntu

Go into setup formerly BIOS.
Look for Boot, Boot mode if mode is UEFI the DVD will not boot. Change boot mode to "Legacy BIOS"
Had the same problem with my new Gateway.

Not all of the error message Google could translate, but it seems one of your color choices were not updateable...In Synaptic, I think it would have issued you a held-back message, at least I remember seeing that before. Anyway, I'd try changing your background color choices and try again.

good morning I found the mistake why some of the computers cannot update

I think this is the reason for no update.

[LINUX_Newbies] Re: What computer should I buy?

Get a computer with low power requirements. Because you're going to be running your Linux system all of the time. Well, you don't have to, but you should. Linux works best if you do not shut it off. Maybe a mITX system, or a laptop? Something that goes easy on the electricity is your best bet for the long run.
