I have difficulty moving files from Linux to backup drive on my XP machine. Not sure if this is a USB Drive problem, or a permissions problem. Some of them move fine. Some appear with a locked symbol. I seem able to unlock some of those in the Linux environment. But tonight I used the USB drive on the XP machine, then came back to Linux. I wanted to move a few files to an identical folder on the thumb drive. They coped in Linux fine, but when I went to the USB, the paste command is blocked out. I tried to globally change permissions on the USB, that didn't go either.
I'm thinking the USB drive was formatted in WIndows Vista, used in Linux, and can't go back to XP.
Maybe my question is ... will I get maximum compatibility by reformatting in Linux? I think all of the thumb i backed up on XP, so time to redo the thumb.
Thanks
