Not to sound too curmudgeonly, but google would have given you an
answer to this in just a couple seconds.
a very simple google search for "yum proxy server" gives this:
http://www.fedorafo
http://www.linuxtop
http://docs.
So that takes care of yum and rpm... if you want to run rpm directly,
unless you have a very specific need to actually run rpm on a package
that's on the internet, just download the rpm and install it locally.
Probably better practice to do it that way in any case...
As for ping, that's a little more tricky, but from what Google tells
me, you should be able to open ports on your proxy server (check it's
configs) and then ping through. Thought that sounds a bit weird to me
as ICMP doesn't use ports as far as I know... but apparently there ARE
ways to do it.
