I have copies of SuSE Linux that go all the way back to version 7. Whenever I get the itch to go nostalgic and load up an old box, I use those. And yes, it provided an option to create a boot diskette so you didn't have to alter the boot partition on a winbox. Always worked great, never had a problem.
Not sure about mandrake though.
