I ran Puppy from the CD, and had a USB thumb drive plugged in. Puppy
offers an option where it can create a storage space on a hard drive,
USB thumb drive or other device with a filing system. Pretty handy.
I also ran Ubuntu from a USB thumb drive. A friend of mine had the HD in
his netbook die. I plugged in the Ubuntu thumb drive, a Linux compatible
USB wifi thumb drive, and a third USB thumb drive with a file system on
it, and voila`, the formerly dead netbook had a new life.
I don't know how long the USB thumb drive will last... I understand that
those USB thumb drives don't last past a limited number of reads before
they die, but so far, it's running fine, three month and counting.
