LDAP documentation is one of those things that make you go ARGH.
Now, I haven't used it with samba. However, I'd like to recommend my
own page--for me, at least, it's the page I wish I had had when first
trying to use LDAP.

Although it doesn't cover samba, it does cover basic CentOS/Fedora LDAP.
Samba.org has a doc about LDAP and samba, but I don't know how good it
is. (We haven't had a need for it at work, and I had enough issues
worrying about the things for which we DO have a need.)
So, I would say, start with my article, which will, (I hope), give you a
place to start with LDAP itself. It's a pretty complex, albeit
fascinating, subject.
