Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Linux on Old computer

Damn Small Linux is old, somewhat outdated, but the ultimate for easy configuration on an old machine.  http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/  Unfortunately the MyDSL repository address do not work anymore, so use this instead: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/damnsmall/mydsl/ .

The major down side of DSLinux is its inability to handle any flash player higher than version 7, which means that you will have to use workarounds to watch youtube videos.

My favourite of the DSL distros is version 3.3 .  Later distros lack the contributions of Robert Shingledeker (who went on to create TinyCore), and I find 3.3 to be the most configurable.

If you really want to get down and dirty about building your system from the ground up, try BasicLinux 3.5 .  Built from Slackware.

I was given two old (Pentium 2 and 3) machines as well as A copy of Red Hat 6.
What hardware specs recommendations ( ram, hard drives etc.) to run this distro? Or would I be better of trying to run a low impact
distro such as Ubuntu variations ( kubuntu, xubuntu etc.)\Puppy,
dsl, mint, etc
Thank you
