As far as I know Light Emitting Diodes are all pretty much the same, just some are doped with different materials in order to make them different colors. Of course the pretty much the same excludes die sizes, that does differ.

A lot of LCD HDTVs are 60Hz Though 120Hz is gaining popularity.

Sometimes I find interesting things to watch on TV.

If you are using a boot loader like grub2 Linux is at no more of a disadvantage than Windows is. Run dmesg to try to determine what is consuming so much time.

In Gnome check in the file manager preferences for single click launch. KDE it is the default so you're probably not using that.
