Thanks for looking that up for me! I will keep the e-mail for the moment I really will have only Linux as my OS. Very nice to know that I don't need to buy a new scanner.

It is supported by XSANE (The graphical scanning fontend for SANE):

http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-CANON

In the latest version of Ubuntu, just plug it in and it will install the program and the drivers.
