Please post the Linux distribution you are running on your laptop...
like Red Hat, or CentOS, or Ubuntu, etc.
Most modern Linux distributions have distro-specific applications, like
'yum' or 'apt-get' that permit you to easily install applications,
without your having to understand how to determine which additional
applications might have to also be installed (these applications are
called 'dependencies'
seamlessly.
