I am using LinuxMint Debian Edition (LMDE) which is based on Debian Testing
(I think) and it has been as solid as a rock for me since it came out about
September, this year.
I don't know whether anyone on the list uses GCStar but it is brilliant
Collections Manager ... well it was until about a couple of weeks ago :-(
Now, when I launch it the whole program freezes at the opening screen. I
even tried launching it from the terminal to determine whether there were
any error messages, to take it further. The following error message was
generated:
zed@systemproductname-desktop / $ gcstar
Killed
zed@systemproductname-desktop / $ Magic number checking on storable file
failed at ../../lib/Storable.pm (autosplit into
../../lib/auto/Storable/fd_retrieve.al) at line 398, at
/usr/bin/../share/gcstar/lib/GCPlugins.pm line 98
Killed
My Linux knowledge is not sufficient to decipher this message.
So, what have I tried, so far?
(1) Installed LinuxMint 10, Julia on another hard drive and transferred the
GCStar data/configuration files to it. Same result - the GCStar screen
freezes.
(2) Renamed the data/configuration files and,In turn, transferred backups
(straight copies) of the data/configuration files going back to September.
In each case it was a frozen opening screen.
Those files, as far as I am aware worked flawlessly prior to this current
error.
(3) Renamed the configuration files and then launched GCStar. It worked
perfectly.
As I have over 500 books entered into GCStar, the thought of having to
re-enter them all again leads to a very unhappy geriatric.
Is there anyone on the mailing list who can shed some light on this matter,
please?
BTW I have placed requests for help on both the LinuxMint and GCStar forums
without any response, at present. Hence my call for help from you.
