Well, I put a disclaimer at the top of that FAQ last night, telling how
ancient it is. Many people prefer forums, I do prefer mailing lists, though
aside from harder core users, they seem to have gone out of favor. The
Yahoo lists, as I've said, were once very active, and very useful. One
reason I created that FAQ in the first place was because many of its
questions would show up many times a month.

While I have been a computer user since 1978, unix, then moving to Windoze in the early '80s, I've used nothing since then, but Microsoft since switching to Windows 1.0, for work.  Now retired, and on a fixed income, hence the desire to go to a system less expensive than Windows.

Before joining Pacific Telephone in 1968 I worked as a professional theatre organist, which I've kept up with, and returned to when I retired in 1994.  I used to have three computers running WIN XP, equipped to record Video, Audio, and MIDI, which I'd like to do again, but would like ONE computer to record all three streams, simultaneously, if possible.  Can Linux record simultaneous streams like that?  If needed, I could resurrect two additional former XP machines.

After 30 years of Windose use, I've got a lot to learn, and a lot to UNlearn!

Bob

Hello Bob,

In advance, are those Win-XP PCs running on 32-bit or dual-64-bit CPUs? I ask so others can help guide you in your research. There are Linux Live media that are for music and video, http://www.distrowatch.com has a search feature that can be of help.

Yes, the only reason I leave that Faq up is for the netiquette section.
(Though sometimes I check it for the old syntax to add routes in Linux and
FreeBSD).

I really have to add something at the beginning to indicate how horribly
out of date it is, hopefully, I'll do that tonight.

Back in the late 90's and early double oughts, these yahoo groups were far
more important than they seem to be now. I think that now most people use
forums, either the generic linuxquestions.org or a forum for their
particular distribution.
