lshw is installed in many distributions by default. Debian does things
differently. Get used to it. :)
You will have to install lshw then you can list your hardware.
Roy
Roy, that's great mate, and your truly altruistic help is appreciated, believe me. It is, however, not just a question of 'getting used to it' the issue rather is obtaining information. I am fairly persistent, but have my limits. For example, I didn't know lshw needed install, nor was I put off when using system/admin/add/remove apps lshw was not found. A simple google found I could install lshw with 'aptitude install lshw', and I have done so. I am inclined to try debian as it seems well supported, and had issues with other distributions I was unable to resolve. Maybe I should have utilised this forum!
thus we have:
display UNCLAIMED
description:VGA compatible controller
product: 82815 Chipset Graphics Controller (CGC)
vendor: Intel Corporation
physical id: 2
bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0
version: 11
width: 32 bits
clock: 66Mhz
capabilities: pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list
I've retyped this as am emailing on my main machine, so there may be small errors with spaces etc.
BTW, it would be a great help to be able to save/print the terminal window-can this be done?
Thanks,
Tony
