they start stripping proprietary binary blobs from the kernel then it won't
be very useful for the users that have traditionally used Mint. Mint and
Debian are very far apart in terms of their philosophy and vision. Remember
that Mint has always allowed proprietary codecs and drivers without any
attention to licensing. This is heresy to Debian users. There would be a big
clash of cultures. Their user base aligns more closely with Ubuntu's
community. Ubuntu is closer to Debian's vision than Mint is and Debian hates
Ubuntu. That means that Mint would have to provide more support and could
not count on Debian in the same way that they currently count on Ubuntu. The
Ubuntu forums have many Mint users. Mint users in Debian forums? Give your
head a shake!
