I mean like how to down load and install programs. I live in rural Tennessee, so I don't have access to classes. I am trying to read books on the subject, but it just confuses me. I am using a mint 16.01? Give me a direction to start! Thank you!

It's a tough question. If you're using Mint, you might try the free online
Rute book about Linux. https://www0.sun.ac.za/hpc/images/d/d5/Rute.pdf

It's more about using the command line.

The Mint forums might be helpful too. One way a lot of people seem to
learn is to try to do something, find that they can't do it, then ask on
forums and mailing lists how to do that one particular thing. As they keep
going, it gets a bit easier.

Is there something specific you're trying to do that isn't working?
That is, have you got it installed, now you boot into it, and you can't
figure out how to do a specific thing, such as print, browse the Internet,
or whatever?
