[LINUX_Newbies] Bash script output formatting

 

Is there a formatting parameter which will allow the over-writing of a number in same place on screen?

Imagine trying to emulate a clock, have application which invloves a delay while system clock reaches next whole minute. At moment using a dot moving horizontally across screen each second. ie generating......as time elapses.

Would like to have seconds (number) displayed exactly same as on a clock.

Can it be achieved using bash and if so what is the echo syntax to do it?
