I am only familiar with certain aspects of rasberry pi.
It is used where it is important to be small, light, and inexpensive. I am aware of cases where it is used as an industrial controller. I am not familiar with any case where it is used as a software builder.
If any one else has more experience in this area, please join in.
Here is a guy who can address the issue of development much better than I.
