I know the above might be a bit dated, but might help to pinpoint what's wrong. I usually have an USB Linux approved wi-fi card handy for these times. Puppy usually sees most inside cards, but other distros might not.

I have recently replaced my Dell Inspiron 1501 (4 gig RAM, 80 gig Hard
Drive), and have decided to dedicate it as a Linux box (I normally use
VMPlayer for Linux). I've loaded Linux Mint 16/Cinnamon onto it. I have
noted that, along with a host of other users, it doesn't recognize the
proprietary driver for the Broadcom wireless card. I have tried two
solutions so far that didn't work. The problem is that, both times, when
I tried rebooting, the computer has frozen on bootup, and, for lack of a
better solution, I had to re-install Linux Mint.
Any better solutions?
