It is important to run the Live disk and test for compatibility before you install and also to install the latest version or the latest LTS. If the upgrade request is for non-LTS and you want to stick with LTS then you should decline. Never upgrade until you understand the difference in versions. As for fixing the problem start from scratch with the 14.04 ISO and run it from disk or USB first. You can retrieve data with the Live 14.04 disk. Roy |
