Yes, it was a busy group in the early double oughts, as were the Linux and
RedHat groups. I think a lot of people switched to forums in the mid and
late 2000's and these groups quieted down.
As mentioned, you can easily try Mint without a huge investment of time.
I think, judging from the other post, I may have said OpenOffice--these
days, most Linux distributions are using LibreOffice, but both are fairly
similar in their capabilities.
