Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Apt on CD and software list

There are a couple of ways to do this. You can save a list of your installed apps using the commandline or using a graphical installer like Synaptic or one of the others. Then you can reverse the process when you re-install and have the same application re-install the same packages again. However, if you are using PPAs then you will have to re-enable your PPAs first before installing the applications that use those PPAs. If you use a stock installation with no outside sources then this is not an issue. You can also save your sources list but you will have to edit it manually if you are changing versions to account for the change in repositories.

You can save your original deb files in your cache manually or using a utility to save bandwidth if this is an issue.

I use
john@debian:~$ dpkg -l > MyPackages.txt
john@debian:~$ nano MyPackages.txt
in Debian.
That will leave the system displaying the file listing.

hi,
I was wondering if the Mint Linux or apt-get had a command where I can
export a list of isntalled software then export that list - so I can
have the same software on my desktop and laptop?
