I can't do anything with a cd or dvd since I can't boot from the optical drive.  I pressed f-12 and got nothing.  This is a Lonovo G580 ideapad computer.  As to what happened that might have caused this I have no idea.  I have had windows 10 update change settings to their defaults and I have had the problem of where "the start menu and cortana are not working."  These problems cleared up on their own.  Somehow I have to get the dvd drive back so I can run the mint install live disk.

Some help please.

There is probably some way to get into the BIOS. You might try doing that
and seeing if secure boot is enabled. Or, perhaps Windows 10 has some new
thing or changed the partitioning enough to break things.
