OK.  Now after setting a couple of packages as -dbus in

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy ">=sys-auth/polkit-qt-0.112.0[qt5]".

[ebuild])
(dependency required by "kde-plasma/plasma-meta-5.6.2::gentoo" [ebuild])

I tried to get around it by adding kde-frameworks/kauth -policykit to
/etc/portage/package.use, but it didn't work.  There's only one
polkit-qt available, and it's got the (qt5) flag.  Is this just
impossible for the moment?

Hmm.  After doing a bit of research, I've found a Gentoo Plasma guide.  https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/KDE/Plasma_5_upgrade  Have you been following that?  If not, take a look and let us know how it worked out.  I'd suggest cleaning out the changes you made recently so that it doesn't conflict with the plasma profile.  If you've already tried all that, I'm out of ideas and you should probably go to the Gentoo forums to get more expert advice.
