Thanks for the advice.

I have several Linux rescue CDs. I will try those first. If they get me
nowhere then I will try to install a distro and work from it. I don't think
that I want to work from Windows due to problems in the past. I remember
going through the headache of a full installation only to have it repeat
itself afterwards. I am not sure how it did that, but these things can be
very hard to get rid of. This is my wife's second infection and she just
wants things to be back to normal afterwards and does not realise the
problems with a full installation in getting everything back to the way they
were. Ouch! The truth is that she knows little about how computers work and
likes the familiar. My idea of installing Linux is a bit of a ploy
(dangerous I know). I hope to convince her to use Linux for banking and
online orders and use Windows for the rest thereby turning a bad situation
into something constructive. Shh! Don't tell!
