You can boot from a Linux Live USB on a netbook and store to another USB attached storage device.

Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] Download from BIOS

Now with my recent experience with purchasing an older computer and getting through that challenge, I have another question. Thankfully the used computer I purchased did have an operating system. But I noticed a lot of the used computers being sold on placed like ebay say they have no operating system but boot to BIOS. So, If I were to purchase such a computer how do you download Linux when there is only BIOS? The reason I am asking is I noticed that I needed downloaders to help with loading Ubuntu to my computer. I am now looking to pick up a cheap netbook and the less expensive ones have no operating system and some with no hard drive. Does Linux recognise when there is not operating system and treat the download different?
Thank you
