[Java] Re: Books and or tutorials

Hi Jim,

I am not a Java Expert but I found Sun Java Tutorial is good, both Java SE and Java EE part. You can download the tutorial from the link in right panel:

http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/

You though may find it too much talking since you already have good knowledge in C. I would recommend you to go through core language features first - basic, essential java classes and collection:

http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/java/TOC.html
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/TOC.html
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/collections/TOC.html

and SKIP Java applet, AWT and swing part, they will take time and I am not sure whether you will need them in real life!

If you are looking for quick start, may be you can check this site also:

http://www.java2s.com/Tutorial/Java/CatalogJava.htm

After learning basic features, I would recommend you to learn the web part (JSP, Servlet) and any MVC framework (Struts, Spring, Wicket etc).

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Ferdous Khan
