This is what he wrote last night:
"xscreensaver installed and running, but, I have to start it again when I reboot. Not sure why ?? Pinguy installed now. I like it now by far the best !"
I've noticed that on many new Distros lately myself, is it a decision that there is no way around, or something as confusing for newbies like Terminal commands?

KDE uses its own screensavers. That is the idea behind KDE, to be a
complete software collection. Usually it is set to blank the screen after
the default time (15 minutes?). It does not come with many choices but you
can add screensavers, but it involves compiling for the most part. You
change that in the System Settings which is in the Favourites and Settings
menu folders (both). Look under Hardware section for Display and Monitor.
It is the second item in the list. These are KDE not Mint instructions.
Mint could do something entirely different as they are prone to do.
You can also add Xscreensavers using the package manager. Once installed
just click on the menu button and type screen and the settings should pop
up. Mine says Screensaver with a flame in the monitor icon.
My question would be why use Mint KDE at all? Kubuntu is closer to the
Ubuntu source and comes out a couple of months before Mint KDE. It is
pretty much stock KDE with a few Ubuntu things added and you can still use
Ubuntu One etc. Mint KDE is a much smaller project and slower to develop. I
can see choosing Mint for Cinnamon or Mate, but KDE? The choice is his, but
I find it strange.
