What I was suggesting is to look up your wireless card/chip in the
computer - its name. Then go to Ubuntu and see if it is compatible for
use - or otherwise an additional solution such as install an additional
free driver in Ubuntu.
Here was my example in a Toshiba Notebook - went to Device Manager /
Properties in Windows---- Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools >
Device Manager > right click it for - Properties (info)
Results.... it is an Atheros AR9285

Ubuntu Compatible ?

"Wireless Cards
To determine what wireless card/chipset you have, first determine
whether it is a separate device plugged into the computer or not. If it
is a separate USB device, open up a terminal and type the following:
lsusb
and look for words like "wireless" to find your card type.
For chips that are not USB but included in the computer, type:
lspci -v
and read the last section. "
