Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Re: W8 & Linux

There has been much written about this. Initially MS was
silent.Recently they have denied that it is their intent to tell
people what they can and cannot do on their computers. This will be
left to OEMs, but we know how MS works closely with them. Then there
is Metro itself which has mixed reviews, similar to Lion and Unity/
GNOME 3. The usual "end of the desktop as we know it" stories ensued.
Some touted its fast boot time. The big story is that it will not have
95% of the Windows APIs, so it is not backwards compatible with most
user's applications and all apps must go through MS. They are pulling
an Apple. My feeling is that it will leave traditional users behind
and they will stick with W7 and that W8 will be a niche OS. It means
could be an opportunity for everyone and another slap in the face of
MS like Vista, Bing, Phone 7, Zune, etc. BTW, they are bleeding from
Bing which has cost them $9 Billion in development and running costs.
They have lost $5.5B since launch and it is supposed to lose money for
at least four more years. After HP axed its CEO for less, could
Ballmer be far behind?
