What is sudo command? I`m OK with the fresh install. Something I forgot. I have Ubuntu 14.10 in one of my computers. NO ISSUES ON ANYTHING!

http://www.howopensource.com/2012/10/install-vlc-in-ubuntu-12-10-12-04/
this link is to uninstall completely using gui or command line
http://smallbusiness.chron.com/completely-remove-vlc-ubuntu-38970.html
then you can run install again, are you getting errors? remember to run sudo command
Thx,
Neil

You might try installing smplayer.
apt-get install smplayer
It may work when vlc fails (and I remember you mentioning you'd had bad
luck with VLC on Mint, which is usually the easiest to get working. I
would actually try on Mint first, as it's more likely to have the right
codecs.
