Thank you. Murphy`s Law. I found two DVD discs defective. I thought these were new,but....
  Oh well. I burned Mint Debian Mate OK,but am not installing yet.
    I`ll revisit Ubuntu again and work with it before I install.   :-)
       Learning curves are expected.

Try a different burning program. Both the 32 bit and the 64 bit iso downloads are1.2GB. I would think that when burned it would not exceed a DVD 4.7GB size limit.
