Re: [LINUX_Newbies] Wifi woes!

Thanks for your reply, Joan. I have not had any luck with a search nor the Linux forums so far. I did find a driver but need internet access to complete the install! Very discouraging!

I'll keep at it and thanks, again.

I find it easier to stick in a USB wi-fi for Linux instead of fighting with Dell's choices of Broadcom devices. I don't know if some of the fixes in a Google search will work for you.
Good luck,

Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] Wifi woes!

Hi All,

I have another issue with installing Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon on a Dell
laptop. The install was seamless and the OS all seems to work fine. My
problem is that there are no wireless networks shown nor any
connectivity available except the bluetooth and a wired network
connection. I go into the device drivers in the settings and attempt to
install the Broadcom "bcmwl-kernel-source" one and it appears to load
but reverts the selection back to the "Do not use this device" option
without loading it. The device in this computer is a Broadcom BCM43142
which I am trying to install.

Any suggetions on how I can wake up this device? It was working fine
before with Windows 7.

Thanks,

Mark
